How are educational policies shaping the emotional, social and educational experiences of LGBTQ students?

resource-directory.jpg

I. Description of Problem or Issue

Schools are one of the least safe places for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer students. Kids are being bullied every day for being different than their peers, and the school system is not doing much to protect them. Current educational policies are having negative impacts on the emotional, educational, and social experiences of LGBTQ students. There are, however, new policies and laws being passed constantly that are moving closer to shaping these experiences in a more positive way for LGBTQ students.

II. Research Summary

David researched what congress is doing about these issues among LGBTQ students, the laws they are passing to protect these students. Taylor researched the impact and influence of younger kids in schools wanting to become transgender. Josh researched discrimination in schools of LGBTQ students and how that affects the academic and social performance of these students.

III. Group Product Overview

We will start of with a power point presentation in which each of us will present short lessons about our research questions. Next, we have set up an interactive jeopardy game in the power point that will be a fun activity to do with the class as well as an assessment for the class on the topic we have just taught them about.
